County Cup Final – Tuesday
The County Cup Final took centre stage early in the week with Workington running out clear 39-17 winners over Sub B, showing their class and composure in a one-sided final.
Carliol League – Thursday Drama at The Magpie
The A team travelled to The Magpie for their second away clash of the season. The home side, still buzzing after a narrow loss to Sub A, were clearly up for it – aided by a thick green that hadn't seen a mower in days.
Rink 2: Ste G, Dai, and Lee battled early to lead 7-6 after 9 ends, but a disastrous 4-end collapse, including a 6 on the 13th, handed the Magpie a 17-8 win.
Rink 3: The sun-kissed trio of Tayler, Ian P, and Kev were ruthless, including a 6 of their own in a dominant 21-12 win over Les Metcalfe’s triple.
Rink 4: Lawrence, Hong Kong, and Jaffa stormed to a 13-4 lead with help from a big 5 on the 8th. A late dry patch made it nervy, but they held on 15-12.
Rink 5: Tony A, John, and Carsy found themselves 10-8 down playing the last, with Magpie holding shot and aggregate. But Carsy’s last bowl heroics, shifting the jack for two, tied the rink 10-10 and gave Courtfield the aggregate.
Final score: Courtfield 7 – Magpie 3 (54 shots to 51)A tight, tense match and a crucial win for the A team.
B Team Troubles at Wetheral
The B team had a tough outing away at Wetheral, struggling to adapt to the green:
Rink 1: Linda, Mike, and John lost momentum with a 5 dropped on the 13th, going down 16-11.
Rink 2: Anne, Tony J, and Gill fought hard but were edged out 12-11.
Rink 4: Aileen W, Evelyn, and Dawesy clawed back from 12-3 down, but still lost 17-12.
Rink 5: George P, Corrine, and Ste B never fully recovered from an early 8-shot deficit, finishing 19-11 despite a late mini-fightback.
Result: Wetheral 10 – Courtfield B 0

Friday League – Missed Opportunity
With Sub A beating Wetheral 10-0, the door was open for Courtfield to close the gap at the top. However, a 6-4 win over Sub B wasn’t enough to fully capitalise.
Courtfield remain 5 points behind Wetheral but have two games in hand – the title race is still alive.

Weekend Success on the Road
Saturday: Gill Dawes’ triple took 4th place at Port Carlisle.
Sunday: Ste Boyd’s triple went one better, finishing 3rd at Linton.
Great results in strong fields!
Stan Bragg League – Monday Mayhem in the Rain
In miserable conditions, Courtfield hosted Aspatria and pulled off a hard-earned win:
Dave G, Ste B, and Jaffa won comfortably 18-8.
Mr Chris, Ant, and Dawesy trailed early and never recovered, losing 13-18.
Ste G, Dai, and George G turned an 8-6 deficit into a 15-10 win with a 9-shot burst.
Final result: Courtfield 6 – Aspatria 2
That win puts Courtfield 2nd in the league, 6 points behind Caldbeck. It’s a long shot now – but the bowls gods have worked stranger miracles. 🤞

Bournemouth Tournament – Courtfield Goes Coastal
Mr Chris and "Mystery Bowls" Campbell took the long trip south to Bournemouth:
In Triples, they teamed up with Chris Barton but were outclassed 28-6 by the Wayne Willgress triple.
In Pairs, they picked up a few wins before falling to Olly Thake and Chris Dennis.
In Singles, Paul exited early, but Mr Chris fought through to the last 16, eventually going down 21-16 to David Pitt in a cracking match.
Despite the losses, the pair had a brilliant time – and that’s what matters. 6 days, 8 greens, 340 games, and over 200 competitors – hats off to the organisers!
⚠️ Historic note: A first for the tournament as Jamie Walker won all four events – an incredible achievement!
