SILVERWARE, NATIONALS & A LEAGUE LIFELINE

Courtfield went into the final league game of the season hoping for a victory and needing a few other results to go our way. Unfortunately, the trip to Silloth didn’t quite work out as hoped, with only Mr Chris, Ian P and Ian B picking up the two points for Courtfield.

That result meant we finished the league season in 3rd place – a good effort from everyone throughout the year.

Jack Fisher Finals Day

The following week Courtfield, as holders of the Jack Fisher Trophy, hosted Finals Day.

In the first semi-final, Maryport faced Silloth, with Maryport progressing to the final with a 50–37 victory.

Courtfield then took on Dalston. Mike, Dai and George G went down 22–12 against Steven Watson’s triple, but the ever-reliable Mr Chris, Ian P and Ian B produced a great finish, scoring five shots over the final two ends to win 21–13.

Tony J, Ste B and President Dawes completed the job with an excellent 24–14 win, sending Courtfield through to the final.

After a fantastic lunch, it was time for battle against Maryport – and everyone produced when it mattered.

Courtfield came through 48–41 to retain the Jack Fisher Trophy, ending the season on a real high.

A brilliant way to finish the year and congratulations to everyone who played their part throughout the season.

Eckles Trophy – Sunday 16th

A full complement of 24 triples were on show for this year’s Eckles Trophy, kindly sponsored by Ken Murchinson Gardening Services.

In Group 1, it was Lord Lucan himself, AKA Jaffa, accompanied by Jean and Steve Boyd, who took top spot with an excellent 24 points.

Group 2 saw David Blake, Steven Briggs and everyone’s favourite, Jockey Spider, also finish on 24 points to win the group.

Group 4 was a much closer affair, with everyone taking points off each other. In the end, Martin Rogan’s Haltwhistle triple just pipped Chaos Campbell’s triple on shot difference to claim the group.

It was tight again at the top of Group 3, but Dalston’s triple of Mike Lamb, Gareth Weber and Andy Rogerson came out on top with 25 points – enough not only to win the group, but to be crowned the overall Eckles Trophy champions.

A huge thank you to the ladies in the kitchen and the bar staff for helping make it such a great day, and of course to everyone who took part.

Leamington National Finals

The Fab Four were once again back at the National Finals at Leamington following last year’s fantastic run.

This time they faced Durham in the second round, but unfortunately found it tough going and went down 18–9. Hard luck to the lads, but reaching Leamington again is another fantastic achievement and another brilliant journey for the team.

Gill was also flying the Courtfield flag in the Ladies Singles, where she faced Daria Rampelt of Dorset. In a nail-biting tie that went right to the wire, Gill narrowly lost 21–18.

Another fantastic achievement from Gill, and everyone at Courtfield is extremely proud of both her and the Fab Four for representing the club on the national stage once again.

Carliol League

The A Team still have a glimmer of hope after an excellent 10–0 away win at Brampton. That result leaves them 18 points behind with a game in hand, so there is still plenty to play for.

The B Team hosted Dalston, with both sides taking two rinks each. Dalston, however, claimed the aggregate by 11 shots to take the extra points.

In the Carliol League Over 55s, Subscription secured the title with a 7–3 victory away at Wetheral. Courtfield still have one game remaining and are well placed to finish as runners-up.
