PLAYER PROFILES

Because bowls is serious business... but our players aren’t always!
Get to know the legends, the characters, and the occasional tea-spiller behind the scorecards. You might even find out who steals the biscuits at tea time.

Colin Jefferson

Long-serving member, past president, past green champion—and part-time barman, full-time legend. Whether he's behind the bar or behind a mower, Colin keeps the club running smoother than his backhand draw. Still pulling pints, now pulling weeds too!.

Aileen McGuiness

Life member, skip, and unofficial queen of the Tuesday night jumble. With nearly four decades on the green, Aileen’s seen it all—except her own nickname (she swears she doesn’t have one). Just don’t get between her and a post-match glass of wine.

Barbara Aitken

Since picking up a bowl in 1984, Barbara has become part of the heartbeat of Courtfield. Whether she’s playing, serving behind the bar, or dishing up in the kitchen, she’s always there when the club needs her. Quietly legendary (even if she doesn’t think so), Barbara keeps Courtfield running with a smile and a set of keys at the ready.

Gerry Bardgett

From his early days rolling up with the British Gas team to leading Courtfield as president (twice!), Gerry Bardgett has done it all — winning county titles, mentoring future stars, and keeping the club’s spirit alive. His story is packed with proud wins, funny moments, and a deep love for the game.

Anthony Little

If there’s one person who proves nice guys really do finish first (well… sometimes second if the opposition gets lucky), it’s Anthony. An ex-accountant with a love of good company, a good game, and a good sausage sandwich, he’s been part of the bowls world for decades. Always helpful, always cheerful, and always ready with a calm word or a wry smile, Anthony’s the sort of player you’d want on your team — unless, of course, you’re playing against him
