Stan Bragg League – Wednesday vs Silloth (Home)

On a quick and tricky green, the visiting Silloth team got off to a flyer:

  • Tony, Steve D and Alan dropped a five on the opening end against Alan Whitam’s trio, who maintained control throughout and rarely gave an inch. Despite Courtfield's best efforts, Silloth were dominant and ran out 19-5 winners.

  • Dave G, Ste B and Jaffa were involved in a tight contest. One shot down going into the 14th, they were holding multiple when Pete Moran played an excellent bowl to change the head, claiming 2 shots and eventually the game 16-12 in favour of Silloth.

  • Steve G, Dai and George G built a strong lead, going six ahead with three ends to play. Despite conceding a 3 and a 1, they regrouped and held on in the final end for a narrow 11-8 win, salvaging two points from a tough fixture.

Result: Silloth 6 - 2 Courtfield

Ladies League – Wednesday @ Caldbeck

Good weather and a fast green greeted the teams for a well-contested match:

  • Jo, Anne and Gill got off to a dream start, picking up a rare and decisive 8 on the second end. From there, they controlled the game well, finishing with a strong 17-9 victory over Helen Raynerd.

  • Jean, Leslie and Kerry started steadily and matched their opponents across the opening ends. The game remained close into the middle stages, but Mary Cowx found consistency and good weight to build a lead. Despite late pressure, Caldbeck ran out 20-9 winners, though the scoreline didn’t fully reflect the contest.

  • Linda, Julie and Aileen M were trailing 11-2 at the seventh, but showed grit and focus to stage a dramatic comeback. Over the final ends, they steadily chipped away at the deficit, eventually edging Elsie Bell’s triple 15-14 in a match that typified Courtfield’s fighting spirit.

Result: Caldbeck 4 - 4 Courtfield
