Courtfield Weekly Round-Up – “From Kirkbride to Leamington” Hopefully

Monday – Jack Fisher Cup: Grit and Glory

The Over 55s travelled to Kirkbride brimming with confidence. Even a late call-up for a substitute couldn’t derail the team spirit. After falling behind, they dug deep and turned the tide, securing a 47–42 win and a spot in the semi-final, where they’ll face Subscription at Caldbeck. A great performance under pressure!

Monday Night – Ladies Pairs vs Wigton

Jo and Gill were up against a formidable Wigton duo in Molly Haney and Chelsea Browbank. It was a tight affair early on, but the Wigton pair eventually pulled away and finished the stronger. With the triples showdown still to come, there’s every chance for revenge.

Gents Pairs Quarter-Finals @ Caldbeck

  • D Forster 19 – P Irving 4

  • J Fletcher 3 – K Harrison 20

  • S McFayden 7 – S Cook 22

Three of the four semi-finalists are from Workington, who are proving to be the team to beat in this discipline.

Tuesday – County Cup Double Rinks Quarter-Finals

A mixed bag of contests on Tuesday night with only one game going down to the wire:

  • Subscription B dominated Aspatria B 47–26

  • Workington saw off Whitehaven 41–29

Semi-finals set for 15th July – some exciting ties ahead!

  • A Team had a vacant fixture, which Subscription A used to their advantage with a 10–0 win over Dalston, putting them top by 3 points.

Match Recap vs Brampton:

  • Tony A, Alex & Dawsey flew out the blocks, going 9–0 up in 4 ends and winning 17–8

Friday – Over 55s Dig Deep at Brampton

The Over 55s pulled out another solid result, winning 8–2 away at Brampton, although it was close – just a 7-shot difference in the end. Wetheral stayed top with a full 10-point win over West End, but we still have a game in hand

Saturday – Alsop County Clash

Seven Courtfield players made the trip to Haltwhistle to represent Cumbria against Northumberland, with Steve Carswell making his debut.

Unfortunately, the result went against us, with Cumbria losing 16–6 overall. All 7 Courtfield players featured in winning rinks, but a 22-shot defeat on one rink proved costly.

Next up: a must-win clash against Yorkshire, current group leaders, at Silloth on Saturday 19th July.

Good luck, Cumbria!

Sunday – Senior Fours Semi-Final: Fab Four Deliver

Courtfield’s Fab Four – Mr Chris, John B, Paul C & Carsy – marched into the final with an emphatic 14–4 win over S Byers.

They’ll face Alan Prince’s rink, who just edged past Bob Dalziel’s Wigton team 13–12.

One more win and Leamington awaits – good luck lads!

Monday – Stan Bragg League: Wigton Routed

Facing league leaders Wigton, Courtfield rose to the challenge in dominant fashion:

  • Chris, Ant & Dawsey flew out with a 6 and two 4s – winning 30–3

  • Dave G, Ste B & Jaffa were 2 down after 2, then exploded into action – including a mighty 8 on the 5th – winning 33–4

  • Ste G, Dai & George G battled hard but lost 12–8

A +52 shot swing puts Courtfield on +164 overall – still 5th, but with a game in hand and building momentum.

One to Mention…

Courtfield’s Tayler Johnston was in top form as he powered into the Junior Singles Final, beating Bailey Potts 21–10.
